Description

Exploring The Gospels

As a young man John Mark must have had high hopes and aspirations about serving God. When the opportunity for service finally came, he failed miserably. When the “going got tough,” he fled to the safety of home, and service took on a whole new meaning.
Though he started poorly, John mark finished well. He became a valuable asset to Paul in his later ministry. John Mark was a man who knew what it means to have a second chance, and it was this man whom the Holy Spirit used to write the second gospel – the “servant” gospel.
In his gospel, Mark presents the Lord Jesus as the suffering servant. The key verse is Mark 10:45. There we find in Jesus’ words a summary of what mark’s gospel was intended to proclaim: “ For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
