But God’s eternal purpose does not include all mankind it aims at a special class of people, namely "those who love God". Who are they? They enjoy the divine promise, the divine assurance, "that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose" (Rom. 8:28).
Our assurance as Christians is based on the firmness of God’s eternal plan of salvation for His own, as it is explained in the following verses of Romans 8 (vv. 29 and 30). This remarkable passage is the central theme of this study.
